In 1866 Bro. S. Joseph Farr, came to Minnesota and under his direction a lodge was formed under dispensation (U.D), from the Prince Hall Grand Lodge in the Jurisdiction of Missouri.
The Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Missouri held a special communication on December 20 through December 22, 1866. On December 21, 1866. the committee on dispensation in its report recommended that a warrant be issued to the U. D. lodge. This was approved and the number of 5 (Five) was assigned to the new lodge.
In early 1885, the Missouri charter (warrant) was surrendered and on May 29th 1885 Pioneer Lodge was issued a charter from the African Lodge (Prince Hall Grand Lodge) of Iowa. A new number of 12 (Twelve) was assigned. A new charter was received from the newly formed Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Minnesota in 1894.
In a 1907 session of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Minnesota, the original name of Pioneer Lodge, which had included the term Ancient, Free & Accepted Masons was change and the word "Ancient" was deleted. The newly re-termed lodge was assigned the number 1 (one) and officially became Pioneer Lodge No. 1.
